It has been my honor to serve as the President of the District 11 Board of Education for the past two years.
In that time, the Board and the District have seen unprecedented success by putting students first in all decisions. My priorities have been and will continue to be Student Success, Staff Investment, and Parent Engagement.
Coming out of the pandemic, District 11 was ranked 158 out of 178 school districts in the state, based on Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assessments. Today, District 11 is ranked at 79 by the Gazette, jumping halfway up the rankings list in just one year. In addition, we have also cut the schools on the state watch list by nearly half, and are working hard to make that number zero!
In the past 18 months, we have expanded preschool, after-school enrichment programs, and Career & Technical Education (CTE) options for our students. We set aside $11 million dollars to enhance safety and security in our schools.
With the support of the Board, I championed historic pay raises and better health benefits for all our hard-working staff. Certified teacher salaries start at $50,000, an increase of over $8,000 from the year before, resulting in one of the highest starting salaries in the Pikes Peak region.
Recognizing that parents are their child’s first and most important teacher, the Board adopted Parent Partnership as a foundational policy to improve students’ educational experience in the classrooms and the relationship between schools and families.
District 11 is doing right by its students, staff, and families. More work is in front of us to ensure that every student has the supports and resources to excel and exceed their full academic potential, while rewarding our incredible staff. I am committed to partnering with you to shape District 11 into the premier destination of choice for excellence in education in the Pikes Peak region.
I humbly ask for your support and the opportunity to serve you for another four years.
Sincerely,
